Pruning that's good for the tree — and your garden
Good pruning removes dead, damaged or overgrown branches, improves the tree's shape and structure and reduces the risk of limbs failing. It can let more light into your garden and house, and on fruit trees it can improve the crop. Done badly, it does the opposite — which is why every cut we make is placed carefully to limit stress on the tree and prevent disease getting in.
Pruning services we offer
Crown reduction
Reducing the height and spread of the crown while keeping the tree's natural shape. Ideal for trees that have outgrown their space or are blocking light.
Crown lifting
Removing lower branches to raise the canopy — great for clearing driveways, paths, roads and lawns, and letting light underneath.
Crown cleaning & deadwooding
Taking out dead, dying, diseased and crossing branches to make the tree safer and healthier without changing its overall shape.
Crown thinning
Selectively removing branches to reduce density and wind resistance, and let more dappled light through.
Cloud pruning & shaping
Specialist sculptural pruning that creates the layered “cloud” effect on suitable trees and shrubs — a real feature for any garden.
Conifer reduction
Reducing the height of overgrown conifers and leylandii and shaping them back into a tidy form.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to prune trees?
Most trees can be pruned at any time of year, but late autumn to late winter is often ideal for deciduous trees as they're dormant. Some species, like cherries and plums, are better pruned in summer. We'll advise on the right timing for your tree.
Will pruning harm my tree?
Not when it's done properly. We follow good arboricultural practice — correct cut positions and never removing more than the tree can cope with — so pruning improves the tree's health rather than damaging it.
Do I need permission to prune my tree?
If the tree has a Tree Preservation Order or is in a conservation area, you'll need consent or to give notice to BCP Council first. We can help you check before any work begins.
